DC Yoga Week - April 29 - May 5, 2013

DC Yoga WeekCapitol Hill Yoga is delighted to be a part of the annual DC Yoga Week, a week long event designed to celebrate the practice of yoga as a life-enhancing, stress-reducing discipline, and provide DC residents with the opportunity to try a yoga class for free, or at greatly reduced rates.

CHY has joined area studios (visit www.dccy.org/dc-yoga-week to see participating studios) in offering FREE & $5.00 classes throughout the week.

CHY will also offer a 10% discount on our 5, 10 and 20 class passes April 29 - May 5 (Promo: DCYoga10).

The Fine Print: Online reservations are not available for DC Yoga Week Free & $5 classes. Students are encouraged to arrive early and bring exact change for $5 classes (cash only). Current CHY students may choose to use current class pass and monthly membership in lieu of $5 payment. Classes will be held to a maximum of 25 students (20 for Restoratives).

YOGA ON THE MALL - Sunday, May 5 from 11:00am-1:00pm

The highlight of DC Yoga Week is Yoga on the Mall (YOTM), a gathering of yoga enthusiasts at the beautiful Constitution Gardens (near the Vietnam Memorial), to participate in a free, collective outdoor yoga practice led by instructors from participating DC Yoga Week studios. It is always a fun day out for everyone, and a wonderful celebration of our growing yoga community!

DC YOGA WEEK MISSION

1. Provide opportunities for people living in the DC area to try a yoga class at a reduced cost, especially those who might be new to yoga.
2. Create a community of urban yoga studios in the city of Washington DC for future events, activities, and information sharing.
3. Increase awareness about the benefits of yoga and meditation for people living in the DC area, in an attempt to help encourage greater physical health and well-being in our community.

Atlas Fitness DC

Atlas Fitness - Atlas Fitness is a personal training gym located at 920 11th Street, SE. Join Stacey and Betsy for a Yogahour class every Thursday from 6:30-7:30pm. ($10 cash drop-in/$12 reservation) Register today.

Biker Barre

Biker Barre - The ladies of Biker Barre (a cycling and barre studio on Capitol Hill) will bring the 'Barre' to CHY this summer. During Erin's maternity leave we will host a Barre class Wednesdays from 6:30-7:30pm.

Elite Fitness Pros

Elite Fitness Pros - Elite Fitness Pros is a fitness training program. Spring and Summer classes will be held outddors on the Yards Park Boardwalk. Join Stacey and Betsy for a Yogahour class every Wednesday from 6:15-7:15am. ($10 cash drop-in/$12 reservation) Register today.

DC Surf Company

DC Surf Company - Be one of the first in DC to try yoga on a Stand Up Paddleboard. CHY & DC Surf Company will offer a 6 class series May 1-19 (Betsy) & May 7-21 (Stacey). Register today.

Penchant4Practice with Darren Rhodes

Date: Saturday, July 13 from 12:30-3:00pm & Sunday, July 14 from 3:00-5:30pm

These 2.5 hour slightly unorthodox workshops seek to inform and inspire your practice. Saturday's session will be a full gamut workshop with a focus on hip opening, twists, and backbends. Sunday's session will be a full gamut workshop to include arm balances and forward folds. The workshops are designed for students with a regular yoga practice and are not appropriate for students with significant injuries or limitations.

Darren Rhodes has been the director of YogaOasis studios in Tucson, Arizona since 1999. Darren is featured in the yoga poster, Penchant for Practice, and his eBook, The Yoga Resource Practice Manual, includes practice instructions for 360 poses. He holds an E-RYT® 500 instructor certification, and teaches YogaHour teacher trainings worldwide. He was named one of Yoga Journal's "21 Talented Young Teachers Shaping the Future of Yoga."
