Partners' Introduction
February is a month that generally elicits thoughts of couples in a romantic sense, but we want to acknowledge partnerships of all kinds this month. Haven’t we all had experiences in yoga class when an assist from a teacher or fellow student deepens and enhances the pose, transforming it into something we hadn’t quite experienced before? It is just these kinds of partnerships and mutually beneficial associations that we would like to honor.
We are delighted about our recent partnership with the Hill Center, which provide us with the opportunity to offer more yoga and Pilates to our community on the Hill. We continue to support Capitol Hill Group Ministry as our Community Giving Program feature in appreciation for all they do to support those in need in our neighborhood. We also recognize CHAMPS and our partnership with them, which further empowers us in our service to residents and visitors on the Hill.
Our February kula members are Klarissa and Nathan. We are inspired by their dedication to the practice of yoga and to each other. It always brings a smile to our faces to have this bright couple light up our studio with their enthusiasm. If you have been looking for a way to entice a friend or loved one to come and join you on the mat, don’t miss the annual Yogis and Non-Yogis Unite workshop with Kelly and Erik. Ask a partner to share the gift of yoga with you.
Partnership is extremely important to us, evidenced by our unified approach to all that CHY has to offer. To foster continued growth as partners and as teachers we decided to engage in a 10-month teacher development program together, which just started mid-January. As a part of this program we will travel to California together later this month to study with our mentor Certified Anusara teacher Noah Maze. We are thrilled to be on this journey of enhancing our teaching so that we can offer the absolute best to all of you, and the thing that makes this opportunity even sweeter is that we are participating in this program as partners. We hope that each of you will take some time this month to honor partnerships in your life, whether it be on or off the mat.
Love and light,
Stacey & Betsy

Asana of the Month
Partner Parsvakonasana
When I think of yoga, I think of connection. It’s funny because yoga is a practice unique to each individual, but when one practices yoga, one often finds not only a deeper connection to oneself, but to his or her friends, and family, and community. Partner yoga is a deliberate attempt to connect with someone else. I chose Partner Parsvakonasana, partner side angle stretch, as this month’s asana of the month because it is a great way to simultaneously challenge yourself with the playfulness of connecting to a friend.

Charitable Giving Highlight
Our 2012 Capitol Hill Connections program features organizations that are located just blocks away from the studio. This month we continue featuring Capitol Hill Group Ministry (CHGM). CHGM serves both low-income households – individuals, seniors, and families – and homeless families from across the District of Columbia.
Please consider dropping a dollar or two in our donation jar and attending our February 18 Turn On, Tune In, Bliss Out workshop. CHY will donate 25% cost from the workshop to CHGM. Read More

Kula Member of the Month
Klarissa Ruiz & Nathan Kaczynski
Yoga class has kind of functioned as our “dates.” We’ve been married for just over a year now and have been practicing yoga together that whole time. We both agree yoga has helped us to be more patient and understanding with each other by exercising sensitivity and consideration and remembering to take a moment and breathe when we might be getting upset with each other. And there are lots of times in class when the group is talking about something and we give each other a knowing look saying “that is so you.” Read More
